Thelma M. Mason

Thelma passed peacefully with her family by her side on August 24, 2021, at the age of 95, in Villas, NJ. Beloved wife of the late Elmer “Chick” Mason. Loving mother of Patricia Wolfinger (Fred) of Lexington, SC, Kathleen Grabovich of Clemmons, NC, and Colleen Gallagher (Joe) of Villas, NJ. Proud grandmother of Heather Cameron (Ronald), Shannon Koch, Courtney Koch, Christine Stevens (Matt), Thomas Grabovich (Tricia Concannon), Erin Steele (Todd), Joseph Gallagher (Jen), and Caitlin Gallagher (Brendan Newell). Great-grandmother of Benjamin, Jonathan, Salvatore, Brianna, Brynn, Dylan, Tommie, Mason, Cameron, Ian, Nora, and Zigmund. Also survived by nieces Jeanne Lunt and Mariellen Wirjosemito.

Thelma was born on Groundhog Day 1926 and raised in Philadelphia. She and Chick had talked before he went to serve in WWII, but she reconnected with him after the war was over when she was roller skating... while on a date with someone else. Chick proposed to her two months after their first date and they were married for 53 years until his death in 1999.

Thelma worked at Commerce Bank until retiring at the age of 80. She was a 58-year resident of Maple Shade, where she was active in the Our Lady Of Perpetual Help senior group, taking trips and performing in shows. Always on stage, she adored dancing to big band music with Chick. An avid traveler and shopper, she made sure she was dressed to the nines when touring new places, from Hawaii to Morocco to Costa Rica. Full of life until her final days, when she wasn't up and moving, she could be found watching game shows with a cat on her lap.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing on Tuesday, August 31 from 10 to 11 AM at JACKSON FUNERAL HOME, 308 Haddon Avenue, Haddon Township, NJ. Funeral Service will follow at 11 AM. Interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Thelma’s memory may be made to Voorhees Animal Orphanage, 419 Cooper Rd., Voorhees, NJ 08043.
