Bob passed peacefully with his family by his side, on Sat., Sept.16, 2023, at the age of 88, of Marlton, NJ, formerly of Haddon Twp., NJ.
Beloved husband of 64 years to Barbara (nee Fagley). Loving father of Robert Swain, Jr. (Theresa), Michael Swain (Barbara), Colleen Marchetti (Harry), Kathleen Lawlor (John) and Kelly Swain-Ailtmar (Mark). Dear brother of Nancy Lista. Proud grandfather of 21 and Great-grandfather of 18. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Bob attended John Bartram High School in Philadelphia. He was a US Marine Corp. Veteran and served for 8 years.
Bob was a milkman for Sealtest Dairy in Philadelphia, then worked for 25 years with Philadelphia Electric Co. before retiring in 1992. He was the Athletic Director and Coach of the Oaklyn Cougars Midget Football for 12 years, and coached Little League Baseball. He was active in the Special Olympics for over 40 years. In 1992 he became a Charter Member of the 1775 Detachment Marine Corps League and served as their Commandant, later becoming Commandant of the MCL of NJ and eventually Commandant of the MCL Northeast Division. Bob served on the Camden Co. Veterans Advisory Council and the Vineland Veterans Home for many years, and Co-Chairman of the committee to obtain cemetery space for Camden Co. Veterans. He was involved with the Standdown of South Jersey for Homeless Veterans for 28 years, and member of Oaklyn American Legion. Bob was a life member of the Oaklyn Fire Department. During that time, he served as President, and was Santa Claus for over 24 years. He was also a member of the Gloucester Co. AOH Division 1 and Military Support Group of South Jersey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday, Sept. 22nd from 5 to 8 PM at JACKSON FUNERAL HOME, 308 Haddon Ave., Haddon Township, NJ, and his visitation Saturday, Sept. 23rd from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM at ST. ANDREW The APOSTLE CHURCH, 27 Kresson-Gibbsboro Rd., Gibbsboro, NJ, where his Funeral Mass will begin at 11 AM.
Interment will be private.
