On September 27, 2017, Age 51, of Haddon Twp., NJ, at home surrounded by family and friends following a valiant battle with ALS.
Devoted husband of Kimberly Myers (nee Pierce). Proud father of Richard Ryan Myers (Christina), Matthew R. Myers (Brittany Hastings), Gregory A. Myers (Kelly O'Brien), and Katie E. Myers. Rich recently welcomed his first grandson Richard Joseph Myers into this world. Dear Son-in-law of Deborah Pierce. Beloved brother of Willis Getchell (Linda) of Phoenix, AZ, Thomas S. Myers (Michelle) of Mays Landing, NJ, Donald P. Myers (Mary) of Margate, NJ, the late Kevin D. Myers (Marisa) of Marmora, NJ. Loving Uncle of Chris, Stephen, Megan, Pamela, Sara, Cara, & Lia Myers, Amanda, Ashley, & Alexis Boddy. He is also survived by his beloved rescue dogs, Mason, Cheddar, & Casey.
Rich was the middle triplet born in El Paso, TX to the late Jarvis J. & Sophie P. Myers. The triplets graduated from Mainland Regional HS in 1984. He later graduated from Pennco Tech as an Autobody Specialist and later earning his ASE certifications. He worked tirelessly for 25 years as a mechanic for UPS in Lawnside. He had a passion for working on cars and when he wasn’t on the baseball field, he most certainly could be found in the garage turning wrenches. During his time with HTAA Baseball he served as an outspoken voice and advocate for the kids while serving as League President, coach, umpire, and parent. As an umpire, he traveled to baseball diamonds all over including Williamsport, PA & Cooperstown, NY; eventually earning his long-sought Varsity Certification for NJBUA. He was recently inducted into the HTHS Hall of Fame for his two decades of community service. During his battle with ALS, his bright smile and huge heart won over many including the Phillie Phanatic. Rich was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and will be remembered by many for his selfless dedication to HTAA and the community of Haddon Twp. His legacy will be forever remembered with the Rich Myers Distinguished Service Award presented at the discretion of HTAA Board.
Relatives & friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday Oct. 3rd, from 5 – 8PM at JACKSON FUNERAL HOME, 308 Haddon Ave., Haddon Twp., NJ. A public memorial service will begin at 7pm on Wednesday Oct. 4 th in the Haddon Twp. High School Auditorium, 406 Memorial Ave., Haddon Twp., NJ. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rich’s memory may be made to The ALS ASSOCIATION - Greater Phila.
