(nee Primpas) Passed peacefully on September 8, 2018, age 94, a resident of Collingswood Manor, formerly of Haddonfield, NJ. Beloved mother of Tamara Brunker of Collingswood, NJ and Clifford Brunker of Collingswood, NJ. Dear sister of Eve Welts of Waltham, MA and Lou Primpas of Braintree, MA. Loving grandmother of James Brunker. Also survived by Richard Brunker of Riverton, NJ.
Poppy was born in Boston to Greek Immigrants and raised on a farm in Canton Massachusetts. She went to Boston to attend the prestigious Girls Latin School and she then attended Secretarial School in Boston, securing a job for the US Army in Guam. She met and married Richard Brunker and settled in Haddonfield, New Jersey where they were married for thirty years. Poppy was hired by Aetna Casualty and worked her way up from secretary. In the 1970’s, she was a trailblazer for women’s rights and convinced Aetna to abide by the new anti-discrimination laws and promote her into a senior level position previously reserved for men only. She retired from Aetna and lived, enjoying her home, her yard and taking trips to Brigantine where she loved walking the beach and meeting new people. In her later years she visited the Mabel Kay House for Senior Citizens in Haddonfield and since she enjoyed surfing the internet and checking her email, started the Senior Citizen Computer Club. There she met her new romantic partner at age 82, Herman “Ross” Wiant (deceased, 2018), also from Haddonfield, NJ. Poppy and Ross were together for 10 years, until health problems forced them to live separately.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, 3 Eves Drive, Suite 310, Marlton, New Jersey 08053. ,
