(nee O’Neill) Nancy, formerly of Pennsauken, NJ and Rohrer Towers II in Haddon Township, passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on January 1, 2023 at Lions Gate Continuing Care Retirement Community in Voorhees, NJ.
Loving mother of Barbara Dick (Andy) of Delran, NJ, Jim Morris (Mari) of Lutherville, MD, Edward Morris (Mary Beth Smith) of Upper Arlington, OH and Brian Morris of Flourtown, PA. Dear sister of Peggy O’Neill-Smith of Broomall, PA. Proud grandmother of Kevin Morris (Zoë), Alyson Alamo (Dan), Julie Zirkel (Josh), Daniel Dick, Christina Morris (Chris Halley), Carlin Morris, Emily Morris and Maggie Morris. Adoring great-grandmother of Maxine Alamo.
Nancy was a proud mother of 4 children. She was loving and fair, however, she was tough when she needed to be. She consistently shared that she considered them to be her most significant accomplishment and, in turn, they are honored to be her legacy. She focused on her faith, family and service to others. She was often the life of the party, always ready to do the Mummers strut to Golden Slippers.
The absolute joy in Nancy’s life though, were her 8 grandchildren. She truly enjoyed being a grandmother and was a firm believer in the famous quote by Lois Wyse, “If I had known how wonderful it would be to have grandchildren, I would have had them first.” She always went to great lengths to make each grandchild feel special and to spend time with each of them in ways that created unique and lasting memories that they will always treasure.
Nancy lived and enjoyed her Catholic faith. Her mother introduced her and her sister Peggy to the concept of service to the church, first as travel companions to the many nuns befriended by their family. She worked hard to ensure her children received a Catholic education and raised good people through her example.
She was a proud graduate of Little Flower High School, class of ’49. She remained lifelong friends with her “sisters” and was actively involved in planning their reunions. Professionally, she started her career as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone. She transitioned to office administration, eventually retiring from Cigna as an Executive Assistant in 1997 being known for her professionalism, organizational skills and dedication.
Upon moving to Rohrer Towers following her retirement, Nancy continued her lifelong commitment to service to others, including volunteering with Ronald McDonald House and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. She also served as the sacristan for the masses that were held at Rohrer Towers. Friends from Rohrer Towers remember her as a quiet angel who was always willing to help anyone in need. One resident stated that she was their Uber before there was an Uber. She continued to enjoy being involved in the planning of activities and celebrations that would bring people together.
In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Italy and Ireland with friends and family.
All who knew her loved her dearly and will never forget her kindness, grace and tenacity. She was a fierce woman before Beyonce was even born.
