Michael Patrick Taulane, Sr, age 75, of West Collingswood, NJ, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on January 19, 2024. He was born on January 27, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Edward J. Sr. and Dorothea R. Taulane (nee Kennedy). Michael was raised in Haddon Township, New Jersey.
Michael was a loving husband to his most beloved wife, MaryJane, and a devoted father, Pop-Pop, Great-grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to MANY.
Michael was "Bigger than Life"! He was often referred to as: "The Man, the Myth, the Legend"....but ALL knew he was a "Gentile Giant", with a "Heart of Gold", and ALWAYS a true Gentleman! Michael's basic core of love and faith in God helped and guided him his entire life.
Michael had a passion for sports and received multiple sports awards in football, basketball, track and weightlifting. He was an exceptional athlete and was recognized with the prestigious Knut Rockne Award in 1966. Michael's athletic achievements led him to be inducted into the Camden Catholic High School Hall of Fame.
Throughout his career, Michael was a member of the Laborer's Union, Local #172, for 35 years. He also worked at the Club Honey Dew, Coral Reef, and Deptford Tavern. In his free time, he enjoyed watching his son, Michael Jr. and then grandson Michael III excel in Wrestling, Football, and Weightlifting. He was also an animal lover and took great pleasure in watching classic movies and listening to music of all kinds. In his later years, Michael found solace in the company of his Family, dogs and parakeets, in his comfortable home.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, MaryJane Taulane (nee Hendrickson), his son, Michael P. Taulane Jr., his granddaughters, Caitlyn Taulane (John Amato) and Colleen Taulane(Ben Grobman), his grandson, Michael P. Taulane III (Madison Stevens), and his great-granddaughter, Adalyn. He is also survived by his brother, John Taulane, and his sister, Patricia Taulane McMahon (Brian McMahon), sister-in-law, Kathleen Cooker Taulane, Special Family member, Cliff Barnes; and Special Family friends, William "Mr. Bill" Schmidt and Robert Maglio. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Edward J. Taulane Jr. and Janet Ann Monti.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 5pm to 8pm at JACKSON FUNERAL HOME, 308 Haddon Ave., Haddon Township, NJ 08108 and on Friday, January 26, 2024, a visitation from 9:30am to 10:45am at St. Joseph the Worker Parish St. VINCENT PALLOTTI CHURCH, 901 Hopkins Rd, Haddon Township, NJ, where the Funeral Mass will follow at 11am. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ. In lieu of flowers contributions in Michael’s memory may be made to Camden Catholic High School (Either Football or Basketball programs), 300 Cuthbert Blvd., Cherry Hill, NJ 08002.
Michael Patrick Taulane, Sr. ("Big Daddy" to many) will be deeply missed by his family, friends, dogs, parakeets, and all those whose lives he touched. His inspiring presence and loving nature will forever be cherished.
