Jean C. Daly passed away at the age of 94 from Covid19, on Saturday, April 11, 2020. Jean was born in Trenton, NJ, in 1925, to Paul and Rachie Cronce. She grew up in Frenchtown, NJ, and attended Frenchtown Public School from kindergarten through high school. After that, she attended and graduated from Douglas College.
After graduation, Jean landed a job at Princeton University as head of their library’s reserve reading room. There, she worked closely with many professors, including Albert Einstein. She was also in charge of several student helpers. In 1951, she married one of her student helpers, Daniel Daly.
After a few years, they moved to Ridgewood, NJ, where they raised a family. Jean was very active in the First Presbyterian Church, as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, the College Club, the Women’s Guild, and as a Girl Scout leader. She was a dedicated and regular blood donor for more than 40 years.
When Dan retired as a school principal, they moved back to her childhood home in Frenchtown. There, Jean became active in the Frenchtown Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and a member of the Presbyterian Women’s group. She also helped organize the town’s 125 th anniversary.
After Dan passed away in 1985, Jean went to work as exhibit manager for the Red Mill Museum. She continued with her hobbies, including book clubs, crafts of many types, designing and sewing clothes, knitting, needlepoint, and tending to her extensive garden. Jean was also a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always had a homemade pie or cake ready for her family.
Jean is predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband, Dan. She is survived by her three children: Janine (James Hermann), Jennifer (Charles) Maienza, and Daniel; her five grandchildren: Emily Hermann, Caitlin (Jon) Posey, Noah Daly, Cathryn Maienza, and Paul Maienza. Jean was thrilled to live long enough to have two great-grandchildren, Jason Tyler (JT) and Olivia Posey. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Cronce of Atlanta.
There will be a private family interment service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, her family would appreciate donations made in her memory to either the Frenchtown Presbyterian Church, 20 4th St, Frenchtown, NJ 08825 or to the Red Mill Museum Village, 56 Main Street, Clinton, NJ 08809.
