Jim passed suddenly on May 28, 2026, at the age of 76, of Haddon Township, NJ. Beloved husband for 54 years, to Lorraine Broderick (nee Chrzanowski). Loving father of James Broderick, Jr. (Jennifer) Joe Broderick, Brian Broderick, and the late Lori Broderick. Proud grandfather of Nick, Chris, Julie, and Lexi. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Katherine Broderick and his brother Michael Broderick.
Jim was born and spent his childhood in Wilkes-Barre Pa, Lima OH, Easton PA, and Kentucky. Eventually his family made their way back to Wilkes-Barre where he graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Jim’s family finally settled in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, Pa. He joined Steamfitters Local 420 as an apprentice and became a Life Member with over 50 years with the union, met and married his true love, Lorraine. As their children grew, Jim was involved in their sporting endeavors. He enjoyed coaching his son’s teams through all their sports. When it was Lori’s turn to play sports, again Jim coached her throughout her career. Jim retired after 40 plus years as a Steamfitter. He was a 4 for 4 guy, loved and at times hated his Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and 76ers, like a true Philly sports fan. He especially enjoyed going to the Flyers games with Lorraine and Lori. Coaching his kids wasn’t the end of his community involvement. While coaching his boys, he became treasurer for Westville Little League. While coaching Lori, he became Commissioner of HTAA Softball for over 10 years, where he expanded the program from the local rec league to a mixture of rec and travel; the program grew under Jim. At the same time, he became treasurer for HTAA. As Jim’s kids graduated and went off to college, he took on a position as Fire Commissioner for Haddon Twp District #2, West Collingswood Extension. In continuing his love for the community, he was elected a Haddon Township Commissioner, in charge of Public Works and Property, where he helped with the Haddon Ave. Redevelopment and served on the committee for the original turf field at the Recchino Complex.
His proudest achievement was officiating his son Joe’s wedding. Jim spent a lifetime as a model train enthusiast. This was Jim’s passion, his getaway. He was a member of many national and local model train clubs. He loved running his trains at meets, especially the ones which gave him a chance to see Joe and Nick in Ohio. Jim passed the tradition down to his kids; they all had to have a train. He even made sure his grandchildren had their own trains and loved running his trains with them the most. Jim and Lorraine’s most beloved time was with their Grandchildren, watching their future legacy grow. Jim spent many, many hours with them. He was never prouder than watching them grow with their sport endeavors. He was a fixture on the sidelines cheering them on. This truly was his passion, to enjoy watching his grandchildren. The smile on his face grew with every game from their first years to their final years in sports. Jim never missed a chance to tell his friends about his grandkid’s accomplishments in sports and life. Jim enjoyed life, he loved his family time, no matter how it was spent. He led and taught by example, never ever looking for anything in return, especially from family and friends. Jim lived an honest life, a fulfilling life, giving back to a community that gave him so much pleasure in life. He will surely be missed by many but never forgotten and LOVED by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing, Saturday, June 6thfrom 9:00 – 11:00 AM at St Joseph the Worker Parish St. Vincent Pallotti Church, 901 Hopkins Rd., Haddon Township, NJ 08033, where his Eulogy will begin at 11:15 AM and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM.
