George A. Carney

George passed away on Monday, December 13, 2021, at the age of 89.

Beloved husband of Violet V. (nee Perkins), loving father of Glen (Diane) and Kyle.  Proud grandfather of Lauren C Carney.  He was predeceased by his parents Francis & Inez, as well as his brothers Francis and Charles.

Born in Philadelphia, George was a lifelong resident of Westmont, NJ.  George was a graduate of Collingswood High School, Class of 1951, and was a proud member of the legendary “Skeets” Irvine’s Championship Football Team of 1948.  He enjoyed recounting the story of the historic Thanksgiving Day game against Woodbury before an astounding 12,000 spectators finishing a season with a 10-0 record.  He excelled in both football and baseball at Collingswood and was chosen as Most Athletic in his class.  George was a US Army veteran serving in Korea 1953-1954 and was a reservist thereafter.  He was a longtime member of Plumbers & Pipefitters PA Local 690 and NJ Local 322.  George was an avid reader, history buff and had an in–depth knowledge of (and thoroughly enjoyed) classic movies.  He was never one to turn down a bowl of his favorite treat: ice cream of any kind!  His sense of humor will be missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 10 – 11 AM at JACKSON FUNERAL HOME, 308 Haddon Ave., Haddon Township, NJ, followed by his funeral service at 11 AM.
