Doris M. Alongi

Doris passed peacefully on April 28, 2020, in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 12, 1940 to Joseph and Dorothy DePhillis. She grew up in Bronx, NY, along with her Brother, Raymond DePhillis. Her childhood days in The Bronx were some of her fondest memories. Doris attended business school at the age of 16, and was gainfully employed in offices in Manhattan most of her adult life. She married James Gebhardt in 1959, and had two children, James and Marie. Her second marriage was to Gene Alongi until his passing in 1988. Doris spent many years as a receptionist at prestigious Manhattan law firm, Baer, Marks & Upham. She loved her job, and made many lasting friends there.

Doris was an original Rock and Roll / DooWop 50's teen- and retained her love of dancing The Lindy all her life. Doris retired and moved to Haddonfield, NJ to be closer to her daughter. She had some good times at Mabel Kay House, but as they say "you can take the girl out of The Bronx, but you can't take The Bronx out of the girl!" Doris health declined, and she became a resident of Silver Health Care in Cherry Hill where she was attended to by many caring aides and nurses. A very grateful thank you to Silver Healthcare for providing Mom with love and attention for nearly five years.

Doris is survived by her loving children, daughter Marie Bellu (née Gebhardt) son-in-law, Renato, granddaughter, Clare, son James Gebhardt, daughter in law, Jane, of Norwalk, CT, grandchildren Annabelle and David, brother Raymond DePhillis (Marsyl) of Smyrna, DE, and soul mate and companion, Roberto of Toms River, NJ.
