David E. Sewall

September 29, 1943 — January 11, 2026

Haddonfield

Of Haddonfield, NJ. Born September 29, 1943, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, son of the late David D. “Shorty” Sewall and Aileen Cheers Sewall, he passed peacefully surrounded by family on January 11, 2026.

Rick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara (nee Clingan) Sewall and his life treasures Lindsey & Jim Peterson, of Haddon Twp. NJ; David Wade & Timberly Sewall, of Beaver, Pennsylvania; Lauren Sewall & Matt McMonigle, of Pine Hill, NJ; and Drew & Alyssia Sewall, of Haddon Twp. NJ. His 11 grandchildren, Logan, Andrea, and Erica Peterson; Rachel Sewall Wakefield, Kathryn, Grace, and Emma Sewall; Madison LaRosa; Joshua, Reilley and Molly Sewall; and Eleanor Raye, the first great-granddaughter. Also survived by his brother Dale Sewall and wife Jinny Sewall, his sister Jill Sewall Duffy, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Rick attended Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, where he was inducted into the Westminster College Titan Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.

He served honorably in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, completing Officer’s School, and serving in the Vietnam war in Saigon Support Command from 1966 – 1968 receiving the Bronze Star.

When he returned home to Pittsburgh, he continued to work for Bell Atlantic/Verizon for more than 40 years. His time was filled with loving his family, attending Steeler football games with 4 years of season tickets, and continuing his Legion & Westminster Baseball career as an ace shortstop for the North Hill’s Jaycees softball team. Friendships made in high school and in his baseball/softball career were never lost.

Rick was a “Storyteller” of true events: One of his favorites happened in high school when he struck out Hall of Famer Dick Allen three times … then Dick hit it over the fence!

Rick put a lot of his thoughts into verse, and into songs that entertained family and friends. He was the music for Vacation Bible School and Junior Church wherever we moved or whatever church we attended with his voice and guitar. He served his church quietly and wisely as a Trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Saturday, January 24th from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield, 20 Kings Hwy. E., Haddonfield, NJ, where his Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM.
