Arlene Frances Doughty, age 63, passed away on January 29, 2023, at her home in Hi-Nella, NJ. She was the wife of Jerome Doughty, and the mother of Danielle and Erica. Born in Camden, NJ she was the daughter of Laura and Pedro Lopez.
She graduated from Camden County Vocational School, where she studied Mechanical Drawing, but worked most of her life in food service. She had only recently retired from Wawa after 26 years of service. She is survived by her husband, 2 daughters, 5 loving brothers and the one she could not live without, her grandson, Dizon. She enjoyed putting smiles on others people’s faces. She was known for her hugs and equally as loving butt kicks when you needed one. She was always 10 steps ahead of everyone else. Her children only knew her as a mom. She was selfless. She was the #1 PTA mom, the best event planner, world’s greatest cook, best memory maker, the list could go on and on. She poured all her love into her family and the people around her. You couldn’t even get between her and her “puppy dog”, Cassius.
A repass will be held on Saturday, February 18 th from 1pm to 5pm at 10 Kennedy Boulevard, Somerdale, NJ 08083.
Below is a letter from the best of her friend who knew her before she was Mom.
“Speaking on behalf of the Ehrmann family, we have been blessed to have shared a part of our lives with Arlene. From the time Arlene was a student of my father’s mechanical drafting class at Camden County Vocational School, to the days Arlene and Carole Anne worked together at Johnny’s pizza, and the time Arlene spent helping us grow Ring A Pizza. Arlene’s creativity helped me grow my cake decorating business. I could always count on Arlene to make my cakes have that extra creative special touch. Arlene’s dedication was unmatched. Arlene was a hard worker, she worked hard to overcome any adversity she faced. Arlene raised two wonderful daughters. She made sure she provided her daughters with whatever she could. Arlene was a creative soul that made any event special.”
“Those we love don’t go away;
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard but always near.
Sill loved, still missed, and very dear.
Wishing us hope in the midst of sorrow,
Offering comfort in the midst of pain,
both today and tomorrow.
When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with too
many tears, but be thankful
we had so many good years.”
