Alice M. Sonzogni of Haddon Township, New Jersey passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the age of 85.

Alice was the devoted wife of 64 years to Edward J. Sonzogni and loving mother of Joan Dowgin (Thomas) of Greeley, CO, Trish Garrity (William) of Jamesberg, NJ, Alice Turano (Mike) of Cape Coral, FL, Lisa Rubin (Kenneth) of Upper Makefield, PA and the late Maryellen Stetz.  Alice was also the proud Nana of Kaitlin Strode, Thomas M. Madden IV, Megan Wright, Elizabeth Achilles, Lisa Rossi, Matthew Dowgin, Ryan Madden, Kevin Hansen, James Dowgin, Benjamin Rubin, Erica Hansen and Phillip Rubin. She had 6 great-grandchildren.

Alice was born in Philadelphia and graduated from JW Hallahan Catholic Girls School.  After years at home raising her girls, she went on to become the manager of Ethan Allen Furniture in Cherry Hill. Upon its closing she began her banking career in customer service with Commerce Bank and later TD Bank in Cherry Hill, retiring at the age of 75.

Alice’s deep religiosity and devotion to her Catholic faith influenced her personal life as well as her impact on others. Gardening was Alice’s greatest passion, one she inherited from her father. Her love of flowers, of all things beautiful, brought her great pleasure.

With gratitude, all who knew Alice will remember her for her thoughtfulness and generosity. Strangers might remember the stylish woman who tipped handsomely.

Alice will be best remembered for her devotion to her large family. Her grandchildren, in particular, brought her great joy.  She penned loving, thoughtful notes throughout each calendar year to each of her 12 grandchildren, being sure to recognize every milestone and applaud even the smallest accomplishment.  She was continuing that tradition with her 6 great-grandchildren, crafting them personalized letters they may be too young to understand now, but will surely treasure for years to come.

Strength of character, sound judgment, and a rich history of storytelling are Alice’s legacy to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Alice’s funeral Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alice’s memory may be made to Catholic Relief Service ( crs.org ), PO Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21297, Sjogrens Foundation, 10701 Parkridge Blvd. #170, Reston, VA 20191 or St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 901 Hopkins Rd., Haddon Township, NJ 08033.
