Jean R. Waitz

March 30, 1929 — May 13, 2015

(Nee Rigby) age 86, of Westmont, NJ, passed quietly on May 13, 2015.

A loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt and she was also loved as the same. Jean is survived by her sons Robert (Emily) of Hopkins, MN; Carl (Chi-Tsai) of Taipei, Taiwan; and William III of Westmont; grandchildren Addison and Samantha; sister Barbara Ann Walker; brother-in-law & sister-in-law James & Doris Waitz; and a host of nieces and nephews. Jean is predeceased by her husband William Jr., parents Dr. Owen Compton & Lena Rigby, brother & sister-in-law Dr. Russell & Martha Rigby, sister & brother-in-law Carolyn & Cedric Almand, sister-in-law Nancy Lewis, and brother-in-law James Tigner Walker.

Born and raised in Shreveport, LA, Jean attended C. E. Byrd High School and then graduated from Centenary College. While still living in Shreveport she met and married William and they moved to the Northeast, eventually settling in Westmont. Jean worked for many years in law firms located in South Jersey and Philadelphia, managing the offices. After retiring she made the most of her time by attending many community theatre productions, and taking advantage of the local library services. Jean also enjoyed her time by spending it with her close friends she had made throughout her life in the area and at her church. She was an active member of the Collingswood Presbyterian Church for many years and enjoyed playing in the bell choir. She was a member of the Haddonfield Daughters of the American Revolution, The Creative Needlework Guild, Embroiderers' Guild of America and also a proud member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Most of all, Jean loved becoming a ‘Nana’ and enjoyed her beautiful grandchildren. The past two years Jean lived at the Collingswood Manor where she received loving care and made many new friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation Friday, June 26th at 2PM followed by her memorial service at Collingswood Presbyterian Church, 30 Fern Ave., Collingswood, NJ 08108.

Interment immediately following the service in the memorial garden.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Collingswood Presbyterian Church's pre-school program.
