Beloved husband of 65 years to the late Elsie L. Lyons (Nee Garwood). Dear father of Eileen McCloskey (Don) of Westmont, NJ, Joseph Lyons Jr. (Therese) of Chino Hills, CA, William Lyons (Ruth) of Mays Landing, NJ, Janet Blanchard (Theron) of Pine Hill, NJ, Daniel Lyons (Nadine) of Blackwood, NJ, Paul Lyons of Philadelphia, PA and John Lyons (Erin) of Glen Mills, PA. Loving grandfather of Jenna, Erin, Joseph, Lisa, Bill, Stacey, Ron, Dan, Jeff, Haley, Jack, Andrew, Emma, Colleen, Tina, and the late Karen. Beloved great-grandfather of Marissa, Jason, Rachel, Brielle, Ronnie, Samantha, Hayden, Mark, Maddie, Danny, Kate, Ava, Michael, Brianna, Emily, Jeffrey, Julia, Allie, Maddie and Camryn. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Lawrence Lyons, four sisters, Sister M. Benita, RSM, Sister M. Lawrence RSM, Sister M. Tekakwitha, SBS, Helen McNulty, and five brothers, William, Edward, John, Lawrence and Rev. Francis Lyons.

Joe was born in Philadelphia but lived over 94 years in his Westmont home. He was an original member of Holy Saviour Parish and attended Holy Saviour Grammar School. He was an active member of the church choir for many years and a cast member of the Church's many stage and minstrel shows. He was a Third Degree Knight at the Santa Maria Council Knights of Columbus. Joe was a WWII veteran and served as a radio operator and gunner with the 323rd bomb squad of the Army's 9th Air Force. His squad served two bombing missions on D-Day at the Battle of Normandy. After 65 bombing missions in the year he spent in Europe, he was later stationed in the South Pacific delivering supplies to the troops and transporting the wounded. After his military service, Joe retired with 40 years of employment from the Coca Cola Bottling Company.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing, Friday evening from 7 – 9 PM and Saturday morning from 9 to 9:45 AM at JACKSON FUNERAL HOME, 308 Haddon Ave., Haddon Twp., NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 10:30 AM at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish HOLY SAVIOUR CHURCH, 50 Emerald Ave., Westmont, NJ.

Interment New St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ.
