Evelyn Marquet Hart

September 25, 1915 — August 9, 2013

Age 97, of Hammonton and Cherry Hill, died peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Collingswood Manor. Beloved wife of the late Louis John Marquet Sr (1956) and Lester B. Hart (1966). Loving mother of Louis Marquet Jr. (Nathalie) and the late William B. Marquet (Gail). Dear Grandmother of Louis Marquet III, Annamarie Marquet, Sarah (Blake) Fulk and Rachel (Douglas) Kroll. Great-grandmother of Sarah Grace and Lauren Kroll, Benjamin and Sophia Fulk. Loving Aunt of Carol, Laurie and Mary Lou Mitchell, Lynn Decker, Robert Banford, Michael Pogust, and special friend to Dan (Mary) Lash.

Born in 1915, she was the oldest of three sisters and one brother. Evelyn graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1934. She and her first husband Lou worked for about eight years at the Marquet family bakery in West Phila before opening a restaurant on the boardwalk in Ocean City NJ. They also adopted and raised her brother’s son, Bill. Evelyn later worked at RCA as an executive secretary, it was there she met her second husband Les. She retired after 25 years of excellent service.

During her life Evelyn developed skills which led to part time businesses in millinery hat design, growing earth worms sold to bait shops, and hand painted t-shirts and sweatshirts which sold locally. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. But her greatest interest was the love of horticulture. She was a member of the African Violet, Chrysanthemum, and Azalea & Rhododendron Societies as well as being a national flower arranging judge. She also has the distinction of having an azalea which bears her name. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Saturday, August 17th 9:45 to 10:30 AM at Jackson Funeral Home, 308 Haddon Avenue, Haddon Township, NJ. Memorial Service will follow at 10:30 AM. Interment at Lakeview Memorial Park will be private. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Collingswood Manor, 460 Haddon Ave, Collingswood, NJ 08108.
