On July 31, 2011, Age 82, of Haddon Heights, NJ. Beloved husband for almost 60 years to Shirley (Nee Garris). Also survived by nieces and nephews and his beloved cat Tippy. John was born in Mt. Holly, NJ and grew up in Marlton, NJ. He worked on the family farm growing tomatoes for the Campbell Soup Co. John attended Friends Select in Philadelphia and graduated from Lincoln Prep School. He was an assistant Boy Scout Leader at the 1950 Jamboree at Valley Forge. John served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a carpenter for many years. John was a 46 year member of the Haddon Heights Fire Dept. where he was a Past President, Life Member, and last Charter member of the Ambulance Corps. John was also Past President and Treasurer of Haddon Heights Fireman’s Relief Assoc. He was Past President of the NJ State Vol. Fireman’s Assoc., life member of Camden Co. Fireman’s Assoc., and Camden Co. Fire Chief's Assoc. He was a member of the Board of Managers at the Fireman’s Home and a member of Masonic Lodge Rising Sun No. 15 F&AM. John was Honorary Lifetime Trustee of Camden Co. Hero Scholarship Fund. He loved vacationing in Williamsburg VA with his dear friends Norma & Warren Crammer. John loved Cape May and attending the NJ Fireman's Convention in Wildwood. He enjoyed country and Bag Pipe music. John also enjoyed John Wayne movies and watching the Phillies. He will be missed by many dear friends, including Charles Cunane and Gene & Barb Dannenfelser and all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Sunday evening from 6 to 8PM, and Monday morning 10-11AM at the JACKSON FUNERAL HOME, 308 Haddon Ave., Westmont, NJ, funeral services will follow at 11AM. Entombment at Harleigh Mausoleum, Camden, NJ. In lieu of flowers contributions in John’s memory may be made to NJ State Fireman’s Home, 565 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005.
